Oh what an amazing thing to do !
Especially if you’ve never experienced natural thermal baths before (which was my case ! i’ve been to thermal institute, but never just… as nature offers them 🤩)
The natural thermal baths of Banja, located in southern Albania, are a true gem for travelers seeking relaxation and authenticity. Nestled in the heart of the Langarica Canyon, these hot springs, rich in minerals, are known for their therapeutic benefits and offer an exceptional natural setting, surrounded by wild rivers and majestic cliffs.
Whether you are a fan of hiking, looking for a naturally beautiful wellness spot, or simply curious to discover Albania differently, this off-the-beaten-path destination is worth a stop. As I write these words, I do feel they might not be « off the beaten path » for much longer. It looked like they were building infrastructure around, to welcome tourists.

The natural thermal baths of Banja are situated a few kilometers from Përmet. The site is easily accessible from Gjirokastër (1.5 hours by car), Tirana (3 to 4 hours by car), Saranda or Korçë. The roads are new, which makes them super accessible.
The hot springs are located along the Langarica River, offering a perfect setting to combine a relaxing soak with canyon exploration. The Kadiut Ottoman Bridge, which overlooks the baths, adds a historical touch to the landscape.
It’s a 3 in 1 experience – we 100% recommend !

Best Time to Visit the Banja Thermal Baths
The best season to visit the Banja natural thermal baths depends on your expectations:

- Winter (December-February): A unique contrast between the warm water and the crisp mountain air.
- Summer (June-August): Less popular due to high temperatures, but great for combining swimming and hiking.
