Located about 40 km south of Vlorë, Llogara National Park is a natural gem nestled between the Ceraunian Mountains and the Ionian Sea. Covering 1,010 hectares, the park offers a wide variety of landscapes and activities that will delight nature lovers, hikers, and culture enthusiasts. We loved it !
We didn’t go paragliding as it scares me, but from what we saw on our hike, we are 100% sure it’s worth it. To book a slot, click here ! (this is an affiliated link, so by using it, you support our blog 💙)
Short on time in Albania? The park lies between Vlorë and Saranda, making it an ideal stop for a hike on your way to either destination. Just make sure not to take the tunnel—choose the mountain pass instead.
Even if you don’t plan to hike, I highly recommend driving over the pass: the view is breathtaking, and the roadside restaurants and cafés are well worth the stop.

🌿 Exceptional Biodiversity
The park is home to a rich variety of flora, including black pine, Bulgarian fir, and oak forests. These woodlands provide shelter for many animal species, such as wolves, lynx, and deer, as well as majestic birds like the golden eagle and the griffon vulture.
🥾 Hikes and Breathtaking Panoramas
The Llogara Pass, reaching 1,027 meters, offers spectacular views over the Albanian Riviera. Popular hikes include the trail leading to Caesar’s Pass, which is easily accessible and rewards you with a stunning view of Vlorë Bay. For more seasoned hikers, the Maja Thanasit trail covers about 8 km and offers awe-inspiring panoramas.
We chose the Maja Thanasit route for the view and loved the experience. The ascent is gradual, so it’s not too difficult, and the views are constant all along the way—on both sides!
🪂 Outdoor Activities
Beyond hiking, the park is a favorite spot for paragliding, thanks to its favorable air currents and stunning landscapes. Each year, international competitions are held here, attracting enthusiasts from around the world.
🍯 Local Culture and Traditions
The park is also a place to discover Albanian culture. Surrounding villages offer local culinary specialties such as byrek or tavë kosi, along with artisanal products like honey and mountain tea. You’ll often find roadside honey vendors!
The Pisha e Flamurit, a pine tree whose branches have been shaped by the wind, is an iconic natural symbol of the region.
